Skin Cancer Excision / Reconstruction

Skin cancers are treated most effectively by surgical excision. Removal may leave behind large wounds or scars, and these deformities can be emotionally upsetting . Fortunately, plastic surgery can be performed to repair the wound and restore your skin to a more healthy and natural appearance.

Dr. Losquadro often works with Mohs surgeons to ensure that skin cancers are removed as effectively and aesthetically as possible. Mohs surgeons are dermatologists with specialized training to excise skin cancers in layers until the entire cancer is removed. Mohs surgery has the highest cure rate and removes the least amount of tissue. Repair can often be performed the same day or the day after the removal procedure. The specific reconstructive procedure chosen depends upon the size and location of the defect and may involve direct closure, skin grafting, or local skin flaps.
